Dr. Mary Hamer, Van der Sloot’s #1 advocate, is accusing the Peruvian government and a prison warden of torturing Joran van der Sloot. Joran is serving a 28-year sentence for the 2010 murder of Stephany Flores, a Peruvian business student. He is also the prime suspect in the disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway. A month ago he was transferred from Ancon prison to a facility in a remote area of the Andes Mountains for allegedly smuggling a cell phone inside the prison and threatening to kill a prison guard. In the following video taken inside the Peruvian prison, Van der Sloot says he was set up.

Dr. Hamer has appealed to Peruvian officials for Joran’s return to Ancon prison where he can be close to his wife, Leidy Figueroa, and the baby they are expecting this fall. There has been no public acknowledgment of any ongoing negotiations for Van der Sloot’s transfer and this week he has staged a hunger strike.
